MLB The Show 24: Release Date, Cover Athlete, Platforms, & New Features (2024)

MLB The Show 24 has announced its cover athlete for the year, along with a host of new features that fans of the virtual baseball game can look forward to. Not simply a baseball simulator, MLB The Show has made a name for itself in the world of baseball video games by including real-life examples through history, a career storyline, and much more. Each year the game releases new versions that allow players to enjoy the game throughout the real-world baseball season, and every year builds upon the foundation of the past.

The gameplay of MLB The Show lets players take their pick of managing and building a team to lead to the World Series in Franchise Mode, becoming a ballplayer to grow a career through the Minor and Major Leagues and make tough choices, or build a fantasy team out of stars and legends of the sport to play against other players. The variety of game styles available means that everyone can have their own experience with the game, tailored to their desires, and even learn about the history of baseball legends and their career-defining moments.

Pre-Orders For The Standard Edition Are Available Now

MLB The Show 24 officially releases on March 19, 2024, for Nintendo Switch, PS4/5, Xbox One & Xbox Series X/S, with pre-orders for the game currently available. The standard edition of the game for current generation consoles will include five The Show packs and 5,000 Stubs. The Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One Standard Edition will cost $59.99, with the PS5 and Xbox X/S versions costing $69.99. MLB The Show will also be available on Xbox Game Pass the day it releases. MLB The Show 24 will also have a Collectors Edition, with more details being released on February 6.

MLB The Show 24 will be cross-progression and will also support cross-platform play, so people across consoles can compete against each other. In addition, all custom stadiums and logos from MLB The Show 23 will be available in the vaults when the game launches. Unfortunately, there will be no pre-launch test for people to try the game before it releases. Important to note that Stadium Creator will only be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

First Father And Son To Be Featured On MLB The Show Covers

This year's MLB The Show 24 cover athlete is Vladimir Guerrero Jr. from the Toronto Blue Jays. Guerrero Jr. made his debut in the MLB in 2019 and is the son of Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero, who was the cover athlete for MLB 2006. The two will be the first father and son to be featured on the game's covers. As the youngest player to be voted MVP in All-Star history and leading the major leagues in home runs in 2021, Guerrero Jr. looks to have a bright future ahead of him.

MLB The Show 2024 will include Storyline mode, Diamond Dynasty, Multiplayer, March to October, Road to the Show, and Franchise modes. Much like previous years, Storylines will delve into iconic players, reliving their most iconic moments, while Diamond Dynasty enables people to build their favorite fantasy teams with player cards. Road to the Show is more about an individual player's career, while Franchise mode takes teams to the World Series.

As is the tradition, people can expect some new Legendary players, with the 2023 Legendary players giving a good indication that 2024 could be stacked. Though information currently is fairly scarce, and it's up in the air whether MLB The Show 2024 will be any better than previous years, one can hope that the developers took what made 2023 so great and improved upon it.
